Synopsis
Charles, a retired man, finds a new lease on life when he answers a private investigator’s ad and becomes a mole in a secret investigation into a nursing home
Michael Schur was inspired to create “A Man On the Inside” after watching the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent.” He says, “The Mole Agent” Documentary is powerful because it makes people of any age, ethnicity, or gender feel something remarkably similar, and I would describe that feeling in a very reductive way as, “I have to call my mother.” In our show, we tried to do a similar thing with the tone: Basically, does our show contribute to that feeling of making us want to call our mom?
Remake of The Mole Agent (2020)
I think a lot of fiction naturally has the goal of making you think something like, “It was an honor to share the lives of these fictional characters.” This show achieves that goal undeniably well.
Kudos to all the departments involved
Even those who come for the mystery, which is less of a focus, should be fascinated by the humanity that comes through not only in the writing but in the performances of all the cast members.
While Netflix has been tough on series renewals lately, I hope they realize the potential of this show by giving them a season 2 as I hope to see more of these incredible characters
journeys.
