Synopsis

Armand, a 6-year-old boy, is accused of overstepping his bounds against his best friend in elementary school.

The feature debut of Halfdan Ullman Tønder, grandson of Ingmar Bergman and Liv Ullman, is part allegory, part naturalistic dissection of 21st century parenting and education and " The unfortunate incident" Between two 6-year-old boys

Renate Reinsve is the eccentric mother of Armand, the accused criminal of the case, and as she is scrutinized by her son’s teacher, the school administration and the other boy’s parents, the film slowly descends into an abyss of interrelationships.

– A limb from which nothing good can ever emerge

Ullman Tonder’s purpose and stance are strong, as is his artistic expression, clearly inspired by his grandfather’s work and perhaps Kubrick’s.

And even if the narrative feels problematic at times, and the film is unevenly edited, Armand is in many ways a return to and homage to pure cinema, and should be commended for that
