The show shifts the setting to the present day
Synopsis
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living by pulling off heists for the highest pay. He soon meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer who follows him on a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. “The Day of the Jackal”; the novel is set in 1963 and concerned an assassination attempt on the then French president, Charles de Gaulle.
The budget was certainly there
Remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973). If you’re going to title a series with "Jackal" then you have to provide grit and quality as well. Here it is for the first 20 minutes, but then (as often happens) the situation gets worse.
The production design is good
The camera work is fine, not too much artificial vibration, but a lot of blurring. But the script is terrible, often just plain stupid. A “Jackal”; just doesn’t show up here, they should have called it “Car Bomb Day”.
not worth starting
To the actors: Eddie Redmayne does a serviceable job, but Lashana Lynch was pretty much the biggest mistake we’ve seen this year. A new season of "Silo" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. Check out our November calendar for more!
